Being the geek I am, it's kinda hard to believe that I never had a playstation... I had everything else, just not a playstation. Which comes to the burning question:

Should I get a PS3 or PS4?

Now before someone explodes like, "WHY THE HECK WOULD YOU GET AN OLD CONSOLE AND WASTE MONEY WHEN THE NEW CONSOLE IS OUT and blahblahblahblah...", there's several reasons I'm considering between the two of them. To be honest, you guys don't even have to be video gamers; I just need a group of people who know how I feel about this and help me come up with a solution 'cause I'm literally hurting my head thinking about this.

---------------------------------------

So here are the reasons for this conflict:

Reasons to Get a PS3:
- Since I've never had a playstation, I've never actually played the main titles of some of my favorite series, such as Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, and of course, Tales of Series; I've only played the side games that came out on other consoles. So while most of them are on the PS3 and the PS4 has no backwards compatibility (which basically means I can't play PS3 games on the PS4), I can go back to the main titles and actually play them for myself instead of watching someone on youtube playing through it (yes, that's what I do...).

- Since the PS3 is pretty old, it has a wide variety of games from the years past. It certainly has more than the new PS4... for now

- On the topic of being new, many of the first PS4 games come out for the PS3, so there really is no uniqueness for the new console. And I'm pretty sure there will still be development of PS3 games well after the PS4 console was released (but don't quote me on that... or can someone confirm it just to make sure I haven't gotten loco?)

- The PS4 is kinda expensive... but I don't think that's really a big problem (just keep reading)

Reasons to Get a PS4:
- Well... a lot of people want it. And with high demand, the future of video games is definitely gonna advance, and advance to the point where companies may no longer make games for the PS3. I think I've taken a liking to the inner workings of video games and have been seriously considering taking it as a career, whether it be the programming or artistic side. So pretty much, getting a PS3 so late in its existence may not be worth it... I'm pretty much gonna have a console that I might not play with that much while everyone who has a PS4 is going crazy.

- On the topic of future video games, my favorite series, mentioned before, aren't exactly revealing if they will continue to make PS3 games along with PS4 games. I don't exactly want to buy another console just to know what happens next in the series.

- Also being an artist, I'm attracted to pretty stuff (actually who isn't?), so the new graphics and processing speeds definitely draws me towards it.

---------------------------------------

(I feel like I'm missing a lot of stuff... I've been discussing this with a lot of close friends and family (since this was supposed to be my birthday present...). If there's anything I forgot I'll just leave it in the comments or something...)

I guess the main problem all wrapped is:

Should I go back "into the past" to play the games that I missed and risk not getting enough from "the future"? Or should I just forget about "the past" and go towards "the future"?

I'm actually leaning towards just getting a PS3 and perhaps getting the PS4 several years later when the hype goes down?... I hope I can afford it once I start working on my own....but then I don't want a PS3 console just laying around... or perhaps I can just sell it or something...ugh...nvm //goes back and thinks to myself

well...

This is all speculation.
I think you should buy the PS3 because right now (this is all based off of what you said in your journal since I know nothing about gaming consoles) because you want to play the games you weren't able to play.
later on, when the PS4 becomes cheaper and more games come out for it you could buy it and sell the games and/or PS3.
I'm pretty sure that buy the time you start working on your own, the price for PS4 will have already gone down (difference of maybe eight years right?)
also, you should buy a pretty new PS3 because programmers might have made adjustments on it to make graphics better so the PS3 might as well be the equivalent of the PS4. maybe. this is all just my speculation. v.v
seeing as you really like all the old games that can be played on the PS3 and currently not on the PS4, I think you should get the PS3.
there is no guarantee that companies will make old games for the newer game console. they will probably assume that people played the games when the PS3 was out. by the time that might have happened, PS3's might not be around anymore, being replaced with PS4 and maybe newer models.
this is just my speculation and thinking. Hope this helps :)
